Why We Take Dental X- Rays (and Yes- You Really Do Need Them Every Year!)
As we head into May and warmer days ahead, it’s a great time to talk about one of the most common questions we hear: “Do I really need dental X-rays every year?” The short answer is yes😊 and here’s why:
1️⃣ X-Rays Let Us See What the Eye Can’t
Even with a thorough exam, there are areas of your mouth we simply can’t see without X-rays.
Dental X-rays help us detect:
• Cavities between teeth
• Early signs of gum disease
• Infections or abscesses
• Bone loss
• Problems below existing fillings or crowns
Catching these issues early often means simpler, less expensive treatment and healthier smiles.
2️⃣ Why Annually Matters
Your mouth changes constantly. Small problems can develop quickly, even if you brush and floss well.
Annual X-rays allow us to:
• Track changes over time
• Catch decay before it causes pain
• Monitor existing dental work
• Protect your long-term oral health
Skipping X-rays can mean small issues go unnoticed until they become big ones.
Are Dental X-Rays Safe? ✅
Absolutely. Modern digital X-rays use very low levels of radiation—often less than what you’re exposed to during a short airplane flight. We only take X-rays when they are clinically necessary and tailored to your individual needs.
Think of X-Rays as Preventive Care 🌟
Dental X-rays aren’t about “looking for problems”—they’re about preventing them. They help us keep your smile healthy, comfortable, and strong for years to come.
🌸 As we celebrate the Apple Blossom Festival, we hope everyone has a fun, safe, and smile-filled celebration! Enjoy the parades, the food, games and community, as well as all the springtime fun—and don’t forget to show off that healthy smile! 😄💐
